If you’ve decided to take your fur baby on an outdoor adventure, a backpack for cats is a great way to keep them safe and close. Just make sure that it’s a comfortable fit, and that your cat enjoys it!
Start with Short Trips
To get your cat comfortable with the backpack, start by taking them on short walks around the house and backyard. Then, slowly increase the amount of time that they spend in it. When they’re used to it, try taking them on hikes or even air travel with you!
For longer adventures, look for a pack that’s airline approved. They should have plenty of padding to spread the weight evenly across your back, and waist or chest straps for extra support. Also, check that it has multiple ways to ventilate. This will help your cat stay cool in warm weather, and prevent their fur from overheating. Look for mesh sides, air holes along the bottom, or a bubble window that lets in plenty of fresh air (but not too much sunlight!).
For even shorter trips, the Lollimeow cat backpack is a great option. It has entryways through both the top and side, plus a sliding mat insert so that you can switch it out if they need to go outside or are stressed on the flight. Its transparent shell gives your cat the ultimate view, but may be too much exposure for shy cats. Plus, if it gets too hot inside, the acrylic bubble windows aren’t as breathable as a mesh window.
