Tips For Backpack Repair You Can Do Yourself
Backpack repair is an essential skill for any backpacker. We spend so much time and money on our gear. Even if your gear breaks, it’s a simple repair that you can do yourself. A small backpack repair kit is essential for any longer-term trip, so that you can fix any broken gear and clothing that gets ripped. You’ll also be more prepared if something goes wrong. Below are some helpful tips for DIY backpack repair.
Before starting the repair, it’s important to clean the damaged area. This will reduce the chance of the patch not sticking. Cut the tape about 25mm larger than the tear and use a seam grip. Apply the tape to both the inside and outside of the pack. Make sure to stuff the bag with a few sockpins or other heavy objects to secure the patch in place. You’ll want to use a piece of tape about an inch larger than the tear.
Once you’ve finished the repair, you can apply a patch made of nylon. Choose a patch that’s at least 25mm bigger than the tear. Apply seam grip to the patch and the bag itself. You can clamp the patch in place using a clamp. To help prevent the stitching from falling off, try using a small piece of cloth instead of a metal pin. A hammer is another option. To make sure that the patch sticks, make sure to clamp the bag down firmly.
